Sclerotherapy
Prominent unsightly leg veins are a very common problem. Sclerotherapy is the injection of medication which collapses and dissolves the vein. This is an effective method of removing unsightly surface veins from your legs.
Sclerotherapy is a medical procedure used to treat “spider veins.” Sclerotherapy involves an injection of a solution directly into the vein. The solution irritates the lining of the vessel, causing it to swell and stick together, and the blood to clot. Over time, the vessel turns into scar tissue that fades from view.
Sclerotherapy is a well-proven procedure and has been in use since the 1930s to treat veins.
You will be examined first by our consultant and then the nurse will inject a very fine needle directly into the blood vessel. The number of veins injected in one session is variable, depending on the size and location of the veins, and the patient’s overall medical condition.
Mild discomfort may occur, and a cramping sensation may be felt for 1 to 2 minutes when larger veins are injected. The procedure itself takes about 30 to 45 minutes.
Immediately after treatment support tights must be worn and you must take a brisk 30 minute walk.
The support tights must be worn continously for the first 48 hours.
Over the next 14 days, you must wear the support tights daily, when you are not lying down and sit with your legs up, whenever possible.
6 weeks after the treatment you will come back to the clinic and the nurse can assess your results. At which point you will be advised whether another treatment would be required.
Spider veins on the leg usually appear in one of three patterns: (a) simple linear (b) arborizing, which appear branch-like, and (c) spider, which appear as a cartwheel shape with a dark center point.

Testimonial
Gayle is a 28 year old lady who has had two Sclerotherapy treatments.
She says, " I am glad I had this treatment. I was embarrased about the veins on my legs and wore trousers constantly. I can now wear a skirt again. The treatment was bearable, the hardest part was putting the support tights on."
